Bertram excelled as a student-athlete at university, playing basketball on a sports scholarship while pursuing a degree in law. During this time, he also coached the local Norfolk Hoopstars Academy, working with players aged 5 to 18. In his final year, he led the university men's second team, transforming their record from just 1 win and 23 losses to an impressive 14 wins and 8 losses.

Upon returning to Hong Kong, Bertram became the head coach of the Hong Kong International School U14 D1 team, guiding them to an undefeated season and a championship title in the ISSFHK. Currently, he serves as the head coach for both the U14 and U18 teams at the French International School. The U18 team recently claimed the D2 championship in Sketch, earning promotion to D1, while the U14 team, formerly in D2, now competes in D1 in both Sketch and HKJBL.

Despite his young age, Bertram has a remarkable ability to maximise player potential. His proven track record highlights not only his deep understanding of the game but also his talent for fostering a winning culture within teams. With a focus on individual growth and team cohesion, Bertram consistently transforms promising groups into successful, competitive teams.
